Afternoon Chocolate Delight

OKAY EVERYONE ON A DIET, JUST SKIP THIS POST. :)
So my aunt loves to make a little dessert/treat I like to call "my addiction." The Lays Potato Chip slogan is betcha can't have just one. Ha! That seems to be the problem with these too. THE CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZEL RODS. I mean...The satisfying salty crunch of a pretzel with the sweetness of chocolate. The perfect combination. I'll take three, add them to my popcorn and M & Ms thighs please.

Here's how to make them:
What you'll need:
  • chocolate (semi sweet morsels for melting) *note there all different kinds dark, mint, milk, white
  • pans or cups (depends on if you use the stove top or microwave)
  • pretzel rods
  • wax paper
  • additions like coconut, peanuts, peppermint

1. Pick out your chocolate. If your using different kinds of chocolate start with the light first then the dark.   This way you wont have to stop and clean out the pans or cups.
2. You can either use a double boiler on medium low heat OR use the microwave (using microwaveable cups) to begin melting the chocolate.
3. For this part depending on how your melting the chocolate, there are 2 options. If using the double boiler, after the chocolate has melted, spoon about half a cup onto waxed paper. Stir the chocolate back and forth with a spoon until the chocolate thickens a little. Taking the pretzel rod, you roll the rod back and forth until it is well covered. If using the microwave, microwave the chocolate until melted, since these times vary depending on microwave you must gauge this yourself (typically 30seconds). Be careful removing the microwaveable cup. Using a quick, steady rolling motion, dip the pretzel rod into the cup. Place rods on waxed paper. You are now ready to decorate!
4. DECORATE! These pretzel rods are yummy just covered with the chocolate. However, to really make them visually appealing add some candies like M&M's, sprinkles, or tasty treats like crushed peanuts, coconut.

A Very Happy Un-Birthday To Me!

Disney came out with the movie in 1951.
Tim Burton put his dark twist on it in 2010.
Now, Broadway will do their theatrical version on this classic story.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Simply put as WONDERLAND, this show opens April 17th! I for one can't wait to see it. The one thing I will be looking forward to is the costumes and the crazy characters! From my understanding, Alice is all grown up living in New York City as a single mom. With her life out of control she looks deep into "the looking glass" and finds herself far below the streets of New York with some familiar faces.
As for the costumes I expect them to be over-the-top, imaginative, and all in all very "wonderland." Crazy props and wacky character are a sure thing and the music well that will be the true surprise.
Disney's animated version sparked every little girls mind with Alice wearing the flowly blue and white dress. And then Tim Burton brought it to another fantasy with graphics and costumes that were truly remarkable. In fact, I would love to raid the closet on the set of Tim Burton's movie. Pretty please, I promise I won't paint the roses red.
Expect a full review of the show once I go see it, but in the meantime check out the website, http://www.wonderlandonbroadway.com/

Who is ready to see the Broadway version of Alice and her crazy world?

chelsea

I've been living in New York for almost 2 weeks and my new favorite hot spot is the CHELSEA MARKET. Located on the Lower West Side, the main enterance is on 9th Avenue between 15th and 16th street. This market a Food Network Favorite!
My first visit to the Chelsea Market was back in February, I loved it. So when I was hired to work the James Perse Sample Sale and found out it was in the Chelsea Market, I was thrilled. Many sample sales are held is the open warehouse like space inside. Ladies! Get ready for the choas!

The Chelsea Market has everything from walking tours, wine tastings, restaurants, retail shops and of course grocery markets! The ideal place to meet friends for dessert at Bar Suzette (I suggest the Nutella Crepe with Almonds), warm up with a cup of soup at Hale & Hearty Soups or satisfy that sweet tooth with a cupcake from Eleni's. For a full list of everything offered at the Chelsea Market check out their website!

Kate + Winter

Nordstrom Rack+ Winter Kate = one happy girl.
I owe my sister Charlene a great big thank you because she has turned me into a House Of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate fanatic. THANKS <3 She knows just about everything there is to know about these two lines from celebrity Nicole Richie. She deserves a big THANK YOU as well for coming out with some brilliantly stylish pieces. However, since I just moved to New York I am on what we like to call a budget. Nicole you make some awesome silk kimono inspired pieces, but the price tag, phew!
My favorite piece The Opy Jacket in Wildwood. This amazing jacket comes with a price tag of $225.

Cue in Nordstrom Rack. I went into the city to explore my new home. Knowing Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack carry Winter Kate, I just had to look and see what they had. I came down the escalator and walked towards the Savvy section where I was told anything like Winter Kate, James Pearse, Ella Moss would be found. It was like one of those "AHHHH" moments you see on TV and in the movies. Like there was no one else in the store and a giant spotlight shining down on.....THE OPY JACKET IN WILDWOOD. It was the only one left (good), in my size (very good), and the price $59 (OMG). I repeat this amazing silk piece was 59 DOLLARS!
This must have been Nicole's inpiration.

I hope Nicole Richie comes out with many more pieces like this OPY Jacket. I can't wait to see the new collection. I am now a proud owner of Winter Kate. Bring. It. On.

hello new york city!!

This is my story about a beach town girl living in the big apple. Coming from the sands of Virginia to the big lights of New York City. My easy to wear sandals won't cut it in the world of stilettos. Follow me and all my adventures along the way...

ALL ABOARD first stop, HELLO DOLLY!
My first day in New York, I attended my cousins high school performance of Hello Dolly! Only thing I had heard regarding Hello Dolly! was the movie staring Barbara Streisand and Walter Matthau. Needless to say, I didn't know what to expect. A musical set in New York what a perfect way to begin this new chapter in my book. Boy! was I SURPRISED! The high school did an amazing job because the first I said was NOW I have to see the movie!! What attracted me to this musical? The fashions of course! I mean just look at the movie poster pictured below! A tight fitted, sequined gold dress with a feather headpiece! HELLO DIVA!

The movie came out in 1969 and was based on the Broadway show which came out 5 years earlier in 1964. Barbara Streisand plays Dolly Levi, matchmaker who takes a trip to Yonkers, NY to see unmarried "half-millionaire Horace Vandergelder. More I won't tell you because you have to see it!
Set in the 1890s from start to finish the fashions did not disappoint. Feathers, sequins, corsets, hats, over-the-top head pieces. Yes! please I'll take em all! The pictures below are just a few snapshots of the extravagant costumes! So classy!

Never get rid of anything, because it always comes back! The picture below is of a look from the Christian Dior Fall 2005 collection. This look a direct resemblance to the era of Hello Dolly!
